I've been reading u a long on Victron inverters
I'm starting to think I'll need higher battery voltage to keep the amps down, but could probably make 48v work (looks like the max for victron?)
slight problem
the garage is is 45m (145ft) away from the workshop which will have most of the PV and the batteries... making having pv on the garage a problem?
it's a long run for DC, and it looks like you can;t have decentralised generation with victron?
unless I can have an inverter in the garage dumping into the grid, and the workshop noticing the export and charging the batteries?
also... I'm right in thinking you can only have one battery pack, even if you have multiple inverters? (on pack connected to them all, no separate battery packs)

I believe you can have more than one battery bank with Victron - try searching for "victron cascade"
Victron also do a 250v dc charge controller, ut it is not clear to me how you are looking to configure things -but that may be due to something I drank

Victron have the RS450 Solar MPPT which can take up to (Do NOT go over) 450V DC, so that would be easy to do a long run. Or you could AC couple with a Fronius PV inverter which also works well with a Victron setup.

Re: solar+battery talk to be about inverters
48V is only a limitation if you cannot co-locate the batteries and battery inverter.
Everything else - solar panels, solar inverter, incoming mains, AC supply to house is at a higher voltage so voltage drops and heavy currents are not a problem, you can have tens or even 100s of metres separating items of plant working at 240V if you want.
