Can the batteries power the house at the same time as exporting back to the grid? :whako-teapot:

Obviously they can... As that is what the PV does... Apologies for the stupidity!
actually they can only send to the grid what the house isn't calling for. Hence the hole in my 3.6kW export (red) in the second graph in post 242 at about 1745 when we put the kettle on (green load). I wish a bigger inverter than my 3.6kW had been available, 5kW at least!
My next system will be more batteries and a second bigger inverter to power the house while the exisiting one just dumps to the grid with no interruptions.
I thought that the battery would act the same as the PV as both DC input into the inverter.

PV (DC) -> inverter -> powers the house and excess is exported.
Or...
Battery (DC) -> inverter -> powers the house and excess is exported.
It is all the same!

The electrons and the electricity meter don't know if the power comes from PV or a battery!

true, but if you only have a 3.6kW inverter and the house wants 2 kW then there is only 1.6 (less the inverter's own needs) to export. That's the way my GivEnergy set-up works.
If there is 4.5kW of pv you can export 3.6 directly and it will put the surplus into the battery or the house, or it will put 3.6 kW into the battery and export the surplus (which is what it did briefly on 07/06/2024.)
2.0 kW/4.62 MWh pa in Ripples, 4.5 kWp W-facing pv, 9.5 kWh batt

Sure. If you have a hybrid inverter that's how it works.

Some people have AC-coupled batteries. Typically those who added battery storage to an existing FiT system.

Update on todays Nowty Towers attempt at a exporting record, its been much cloudier than I expected and I had a short comms failure in the night.

But there is still a chance of beating my record of 122.2 kWh export in a day if the batteries hold out. Extraordinary measures have been applied like reducing the heatpump output and putting SWMBO on a laundry embargo. :?

Its a new Nowty Towers export record but I'll have wait till the Octopus comes in with the final numbers on the billing. :xx:

I doubt I'll quite make the crisp twenty pound note from the Octopus though, less than an hour to go now.

Are Octopus having IT problems? My account is in deficit because I haven't had my export credit yet (usually goes in about 5th of the month) and the payment of the 7th isn't shown yet either.
I hope they haven't over-reached themselves...
