Yes, a great scheme to nudge us all in the right direction if we're to achieve net zero. I'd love to join in but don't qualify as we've ditched gas already but certainly applaud Octopus for promoting this. :D

Joe.
Competition where you exclude a vast swathe of your customer base is simply crass.
Doubtless we are all paying somewhere down the line towards the £1 million prize exclusive to gas users.

Or rather than dribble-peeing away a million quid they could help underwrite, in partnership, the next ripple turbine (so it could get going sooner & shares would be with an active wind turbine when bought)

i'd applaud that as positive action compared to a million quid drop.

..or maybe I am Joe  (not for the first time eh)

No, I am referring to dual fuel customers (gas, n' electric) ...£1 mill comp entry ability.
Compared to nothing for singular fuel (electric) Octopus customers no invite to the £1 mill comp party.

The electric only customers should be pleased Octopus are pushing the rest of us to use less gas!
12x 340W JA Solar panels (4.08kWp)
3x 380W JA Solar panels (1.14kWp)
5x 2.4kWh Pylontech batteries (12kWh)
LuxPower inverter/charger

(Artist formally known as ******, well it should be obvious enough to those for whom such things are important.)

I just thought you'd lost the plot and went off on one! Which you did, yet with a firm basis in miffed reality. Been there...

Once the big turbine is outputting I am hoping to literally knock off my gas as I should on a linear path be seeing around 19kWh of power per day from WT1 which will be matched or slightly exceeded by Octopus Go Faster costs. 12kWh to fully heat our HWT leaves 7kWh to heat in storage heaters. That will go a long way to nulling out my gas use. Happy to pay for the power that fuels the EV and rest of home in Winter Months. I have no expectations of gaining(sorry Gus) from the Octo gas comp but I do enjoy chasing these FF's down and doing it together will be good craick?

I should actually be seeing about a quid and a half from WT1 per day and that goes a long way on the off peak window. We'll see how it all plays out. For sure Shell & BP dividend this month are being invested in WT2 Jan22 to the max I can finagle. It's a no brainer...

Even without Ripple WT1, for me the cost of cheap rate leccy is now at parity with gas even for storage heaters. I checked my gas v leccy use over the past 5 years for the month of November. Year on year my total energy import has reduced and now gas has been practically wiped out.

But what is really surprising to me is that we now have 2 EVs, with all home charging and we are still importing less energy.

(All numbers below in kWh)

November 2017
Gas 2914
Leccy 112
Total 3026
November 2018 (Heatpump)
Gas 1932
Leccy 434
Total 2366
November 2019 (Heatpump + 1 EV)
Gas 1014
Leccy 1150
Total 2164
November 2020 (Heatpump + 1 EV)
Gas 914
Leccy 834
Total 1748
November 2021 (Heatpump + 2 EV’s)
Gas 32
Leccy 1643
Total 1675
