I've been wondering about them. How often do you get them? They would be very useful to stretch through the day.

If I have zero grid usage all the time I presume I can't actually make any savings at that point?
Octopus is a strange beast! Doesn't always behave how you might expect!

There was a time when it followed reason. So if your battery was very low on your BEV such that it needed 8hrs of charging by 0830 and you plugged in at 1600 then Octopus might schedule the charge to occur from 2300-0700 and give you a few additional cheapslots to cover that. Some people found their finger slipping and telling Octopus that they needed the charge to be complete by 0400 resulting in a 2000-0400 scheduled charge and a few more additional cheapslots. However nowadays the charge seems to start immediately. Even if you plug in at 1600 needing 4hrs of charge by 0830, Octopus schedules this to occur from 1600-2000. Which makes no sense whatsoever and will surely change at some point. But for now just plug in anytime you need cheap electric and good-to-go!

Lots of people with batteries have a low-or-zero baseline for the saving sessions. However I've seen it suggested that the reason for Octopus' above behaviour is that Octopus are "rinsing" to help IOG customers build up a "baseline" so that both Octopus and the customer can benefit from the saving sessions. Who knows if that is true. I'm not prone to conspiracy theories myself. In any case you can still join in with the saving sessions by exporting...

I find if its blowing a gale like today, the Octopus is more generous that if its a saving session type day.
Purely anecdotal, I don't have any empirical data.

That is good to know thanks.

In the shoulder winter months this year it would have cost me £655 with the 8 pylontechs. £556 with 10 pylons techs. That's maybe £200 a year saving from time shifting. It's probably better to go for more solar if I can get a decent price for a ground mount.

Just read the latest OFGEM FIT annual report and it seems a LOT of folk are abandoning FIT export.

https://www.ofgem.gov.uk/sites/default/ ... r%2013.pdf

In SY13, the total value of the scheme increased by £157.7 million to £1.73 billion. Much of
this increase is attributed to the growth in renewable generation (by over 0.96 TWh), thus the
increase in generation payments under the FIT scheme. However, total export payments
decreased since last year. This was in large part due to a 65.6% decrease in metered export
payments made under the scheme.
We understand that due to the rise in wholesale energy
costs a number of FIT Generators opted out of the export element of the scheme, switching
from the standard FIT export tariff to a negotiated Power Purchase Agreement (PPA).

1st of Feb today which means some of my shading starts to reduce with another big boost around mid Feb, thereafter its happy days till late October. :xx:

Mega sunny today  and I'm having to force export over 4kW to keep my DC coupled solar in business as the home battery is full. Normally I would be dumping the power to the EV, hot water or storage heaters but with the 15p export rate its forced export and we will import what we need later in the cheapslot at 7.5p.

Over 5kW coming in, I'm going to have to turn the export up again as home battery is still charging.

I've never had an immediate charge schedule with either the JLR integration or the Zappi integration. We've got PV and a fair chunk of home battery storage and our baseline is very nearly zero. Wouldn't mind raising it a little for those saving sessions.

Perhaps it's our location - we're on the very North East corner of West Sussex.

No Tesla don't / won't do it.

Joeboy has it on his Hyundai IONIQ 5.

It is strange that it doesn't seem to be available on the Kona which replaces my daughter's current one later this month.
