Sunday morning seems a strange time to reduce demand... Could the network capacity be reduced for engineering work? Cooking Sunday lunch can't be a big consumer nowadays, can it?dlw wrote: ↑Fri Apr 28, 2023 11:35 pm It doesn't seem over for some

in my mindBritish Gas will be telling its customers to turn off ovens and washing machines this Sunday to save money on energy. The energy provider will be paying back money into customers' accounts for using less energy.
The scheme will take place between 11am and 4pm this Sunday April 30

Re: Octopus saving sessions coming 1st Nov
My thinking is British Gas may turn a profit as it will stimulate more demand at a time when BG will be able to buy for the extra for circa 7.5p / kWh as thats the day ahead price.AE-NMidlands wrote: ↑Sat Apr 29, 2023 1:07 pmYou are right, I left the page withnowty wrote: ↑Sat Apr 29, 2023 10:52 amThe article is worded very badly, its half price leccy between 11am and 4pm.AE-NMidlands wrote: ↑Sat Apr 29, 2023 8:53 am

Re: Octopus saving sessions coming 1st Nov
Looks like they are coming back again next (this) winter: https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/business-65915346 says
Discount offers for households to use less electricity at peak times will return this winter as part of plans to minimise the risk of power cuts.
National Grid ESO said it expected to have sufficient capacity to meet demand but added it would be "prudent" to maintain the energy-saving scheme.
The network operator said the Ukraine war posed "risks and uncertainties" to gas supplies across Europe and the UK. It said "tight days" on the UK energy grid would most likely be in January.
"There will be cold snaps in the winter and therefore we do expect to use our normal operational tools," said a spokesman for National Grid ESO.

Re: Octopus saving sessions coming 1st Nov
A formal consultation process has just begun to determine the final terms of this winters service,
https://www.nationalgrideso.com/industr ... ervice-dfs
They are proposing to remove the "in day adjustment", but there is a small chance it may remain in another form, either a longer period or even take the whole day which would be good as it would include the off peak period when some of us are boosting the batteries, the EV, the hot water and storage heaters.
