You’re going to have to get the Navy shower regime going, or, if that fails, introduce everyone to Wim Hof
The move to electric powered homes is obviously possible. How it will be achieved without hardship and disruption, I don’t know.
The self investment to be self or at least grid RE is massive. I'll have to sit down and tot it all up and then do a benefits cost too. My mind approaches the hidden value too but I don't know how to drill down into the 'real' figures and costs of power generation and transportation. I'm stuck on the top layer dealing in crude kWh and two fuels (ok 3 if incl logs). Bear in mind I think all the way from survey vessels burning fuel and towing arrays thru to at the hob.

Thing is Joe, you’re an ‘evangelist’, and I use that as a very big compliment. For many, the change is going to be unwelcome, disruptive and potentially ineffective.
W you and I have the advantage of a simple heat source.
I worry about a mass change to heating provided by heat pumps, probably ASHP. Not because of the technology, but poor specification, installation, use etc.

The third aspect of RE purchase and investment cannot be explained better IMHO that this. There is also a 'power to a point' aspect that won't be so readily available to the masses...maybe. Nonetheless, volume will matter even if less efficient. https://www.goodreads.com/quotes/72745- ... s-reasoned

Not bad, everything on. 10.65kW incoming or 44.5A load. Might not need the 100A upgrade after all.
1.5hrs later, settled back to 9kW inflow.

What about the car? On a granny I assume? You’ll want a 7.4kW charging point sometime soon…
That's adds another 20A over and above the current EV load which would take me all the way up to a fuse popping 65A. I guess I'll set a cap on the EV point or slide the storage heater timing's around a little.
Charging at 6.4kW would be no hardship if I'm offered a two grand bill to dig the street up! That's about 140 mile charge per night. We're not even close to using that amount each day vs 162 miles charging at 7.4kW.
On the other hand, if its a £500 upgrade to 100A i'll go for it. House is sitting at 17.4 degrees this morning. Octopus Go faster 1st run went well with only one niggle. A storage heater setting defaulted to a later time and ran until 7am so I start the day with a 84%soc. That's ok as we finished last night at 33%soc before the charging period. Looks like the balance of battery vol vs home use is correct even allowing for the unexpected. Phew!

Dropped all the way down to 13% soc for 21.30hrs this evening then medal to to the petal at 14.4kW incoming.. Happy New Year!

P S hands on incoming leads, barely warm to touch. Using Nowty memory of previous hot cable times here as a guide.
