I completely rely on being able to get additional cheapslots whenever I need them as the cold weather rolls in. Some bright conditions help a lot though.

Can you game a 1000-1100 charging slot for a middle-of-the-day battery charge?

Probably, but I typically game it from 5pm onwards, but depends on how high my EV battery is, the higher the SOC, the less number of slots I can get as it gets closer to full the Octopus won't offer me what I want.

I've been recently requesting slots from around 7:30pm and then turn off the charging come 11:30pm when the cheap rate starts. I turn on sentry mode on the EV which burns about the same amount of capacity in a day that the extra 4 hour cheap slots put in on low charge rate. In that way, even if I don't use the EV, I can get an extra 4 hours cheapslot mid evening everyday to run the heatpumps, washing machine, etc. Doing it at the same time everyday also means I can leave the inverter re-programming alone.

I'll be doing a fish run tomorrow which will drop the EV SOC by about another 10% in time for the big freeze arriving here Wednesday. Then I will be asking for the power earlier and running both the A2A heatpumps and my GSHP (radiators). Plus the storage heaters if required, they really make a difference when the temperature drops well below zero.

Having the A2A heatpumps has massively reduced my storage heater use but I find them still useful in the cold snaps.

Forecast to be -3℃ overnight tonight and is snowing right now. So I'll need additional cheapslots...

Was looking through some old paperwork yesterday and came across our first electricity bill from this house back in December 1987. Was a grand total of 480kWh (4.24p/kWh) for the 3 month billing period, usage for the last 7 days 432kWh, just glad it's all at the IOG cheap rate.

For my past 7 days 493 kWh import at Nowty Towers, but there is also 177 kWh of export, so its a net 316 kWh with a net cost (excluding SC) of £11.83, so thats an average cost to me of 3.74p / kWh.

And for the year so far my total leccy bill (excluding SC) is MINUS £710 and thats excluding saving sessions and power hour rebates.

Far cheaper than using gas which is currently over 6p / kWh on my tracker tariff.
