Does British Gas still have an Economy 7 tariff?

Post by sharpener »

A friend has discovered British Gas has switched them from E7 to their SVT.

Can anyone tell me whether this is an administrative mistake, or has British Gas completely abolished the Economy 7 tariff?

If so is there any likelihood of switching to another provider or are all switches off under the current price cap regime?

I just switched to octopus, who offer an eco 7 tariff and also 'go' which has even cheaper overnight electricity but for only 4 hours instead of 7.

Even though most suppliers seem to be advising people not to switch, if you are sure the new tariff will save you money then octopus at least seem happy to accept new customers. The only problem I had when switching was that EDF got my final reading wrong and now they owe me £300.

The impression I have is that very few suppliers are publishing their E7 tariffs, but that quite a few still have them if you ask. Not at all sure why, but it seems some suppliers are a bit coy about putting their tariffs in an easy to find location. I rang around a few weeks ago to try and find E7 tariffs and even the switchboard staff at some suppliers knew nothing about them.

I just tried using your referral link dangermouse as my fixed tariff runs out in a couple of months, and I want to get onto Octopus and cheaper overnight charging, but it seems to run to a dead end and you need to call them, unless I'm doing something wrong?

I signed up over the phone, and then once your account is open there's an opportunity to enter a referral code on their web site. So it's hard to miss out!

Octopus tariffs, just scroll down and enter postcode, don't ask for a quote unless you want one.

Just registered on here and lots of interesting topics.

Can you get an E7 tariff with a smart meter or do you need an E7 meter?

Currently with Ovo on a fixed tariff ending next August. I’ve had solar since 2014, am looking at a 10kw battery for the house in the spring but don’t have an EV so can’t go for Intelligent Octopus but am looking at their E7 or Go tariffs.
