Victron launch Dynamic ESS

Just watched a Victron webinar on their new Dynamic ESS software (a recording will be available).

It raises the bar for control of battery storage, you can input a ToU tariff table and then it will decide when best to import and export to minimise cost/maximise earnings based on Solcast for the next 7 days and your past 28 days' consumption pattern.

It will automatically accept ETSO-E day-ahead pricing in the EU. But for UK you have to input the tariff manually ATM, in view of the high level of interest they are going to look at integrating with the Octopus Agile API as well.

Is currently available in beta test and will be formally released in October. A very interesting development.

That's very interesting, an integrated version of the DIY ESS I implemented in Home Assistant and Node Red.
No doubt much more well put together, I wonder if they have details about how they auto adjust the Solcast forecast based on array characteristics anywhere.

Thanks for highlighting Sharpener, if I was starting again with a bigger budget then Victron would definitely be the frontrunner.

Apparently things like the array aspect are part of the self-learning algorithm, there were over 200 Q & A dealt with during and after the Zoom webinar.

What does your Node Red run on, does the Solis have this capability? I was going to start down this path myself but there were hints in the spring this initiative was already under way (I suggested an equivalent to BatteryLife to optimise the amount of room left for PV based on SoC history and was told to wait and see...). DynESS was originally developed as a NodeRed flow and this will continue to be available, the advantage is that it runs on your machine not somewhere in the cloud, however it still needs the Solcast feed.

Whilst reading the online discussion about DynESS I found there is something similar out there already as a private venture, it can store two load profiles e.g. Normal and Holiday which would suit me ideally, but I expect Victron will copy this feature.

I will wait for it to bed down a bit, as optimising for E7 is currently just a matter of picking a target SoC according to the season and charging (or not discharging) 0000 - 0100 and 0200 - 0800, I do not export as I cannot have a smart meter fitted (no signal). And it is not clear that it would be worthwhile as I am planning on installing an HP which will use much of what I currently export on deemed terms. So I have the MPPT set to not export its surplus as it runs quite hot and the inverter fan noise is a pain.

OOuu thats looks interesting and something I'd be interested in. And possibly the right timeframe too.

I watched it too, really interesting, if we weren't on a boat and stuck with not being able to grid feed (when we finally get grid) then it's a no brainer.

I've been enjoying the 7 day solcast in VRM too, Victron are pretty on it with development.
