App for Smart Meter

#1

Post by FlyingScot »

I have a new style Octopus smart meter and rather than getting down on my knees and playing with the buttons on the smart meter I am wondering is there an app for connecting to my smart meter to see energy used AND energy being exported

It is the exported energy that I am more interested in observing

many thanks

You can get an Octopus Mini which connects to the Internet and the Smart meter, the Octopus App then allows you to see various details.
Not sure if it shows export or not though as mine is just tellingme my readings are on the way - might be due to losing WiFI on my phone though.

I use an app called Octopus Watch which looks at your tariff and export and gives you a daily/weekly/monthly running total.

Apply for an Octopus Mini. Gives you live updates via the Octopus App on your phone. Updates every 5 mins, also displays last day, week, month and year use in £'s or kWh's Octopus mini needs to be in wireless range of the smartmeter AND connect to your in house WiFi/Internet. But it does work well and is reliable.

Live use is exactly that so if you are exporting it shows as a negative number. Screen shot below show a "live" export of just over 4kW. Graph is of import but day, week etc. can show export and import.

I'm on an Octopus Mini which combined with the Luxpower inverter on the PC I can get all the information I need.
Do any of the other suppliers try to help their customers understand what's going on?

If the Mini will connect wirelessly to the smart meter and also to your internet via wi-fi can Ocotpus not use it to connect the smart meter to the internet in areas of poor reception? Still waiting to be contacted about fitting a smart meter six weeks after I applied.
