Octopus Go Intelligent in practice ….

#1

Post by Lincs Robert »

Hi,

Ok, so at the moment I’m on the normal Go tariff. I don’t have an EV, but did in the past (long story) but will probably be getting one in the next month or so. At that point I’ll be going onto Intelligent Go which I’m sure will work ok as I still have a Zappi installed a couple of years ago from my previous ownership experience. My solar and storage capacities have increased significantly in the interim. The Zappi gets used occasionally by my son when he visits & it’s on the latest software.

I’ve heard that there are usage stipulations with I Go, so I’m wondering how these work in practice for those of you with EVs & larger installations. In the summer months I can see almost zero usage for vehicle and storage charging as frankly I now have more solar than I can use. Things will change between autumn to spring - I can see a need for perhaps a weekly vehicle charge but daily house storage charge.

Are there any issues I need to be aware of?

Thanks - Rob

23.30 to 05.30 charge window @ 7p.

EV soc combined with RE status of grid can get you extra charging slots but not guaranteed.

Not sure of any downsides.

I have not had my car charged via the app for about 6 months since I reported it not working…..

Doesn’t bother me as I’m never at home to take advantage of any during the day sessions.

On IoG I believe you also get a period of discounted import for “house supply” as well - they can measure the amount going into the car via the smart charging sessions on the Zappi as separate

Yes the whole house benefits from the cheap slot, but you have to have the car connected to get it, fine if you are home doesn’t work for me unfortunately, luckily we have 4x22 kW at work which we can use

Indeed, my application is just in for that, so I’ll get 8p per unit. I’ll also switch off my deemed export on the FiT. Octo have told me it will take “several weeks” for that to take effect, so the timings good for the EV purchase.👍

Could you expand on that please. So if the car is plugged in and not actually charging then that’s good? It’s just that ive been told, maybe incorrectly, that, if you don’t charge the car for x period of time they can withdraw the tariff?

How do you know about when the extra charging slots are scheduled for?
