Hi All,

I'm hoping someone here has some experience with the Growatt SP2000 battery storage systems and can provide some advice.
I'm using the SP2000 configured for Lead Acid batteries, and have 4x 140Ah batteries in new condition as my storage. I have a 3kW PV array and an Aurora one inverter configured for a single MPPT.

The problem I'm having is with the charge/discharge start and cutoffs. At the moment the battery charges up to around 52V and stops generating power at night when it drops down to 51V. Not a very useful range, powering my home at night for roughly half an hour.

What I would like to do is have the unit stop generating when the battery voltage hits 48.4V (50% DoD), and cease charging when the voltage hits 57V.
Like an idiot I did not make a note of the default Vbat Charge high/low and Vbat Discharge high/low settings before I started changing them. But whatever they are set to, its not the discharge or charge cut-offs in the settings. The settings have some affect, but not what I actually want.

The SP2000 is correctly reporting the actual battery voltage so I don't think the unit is faulty. I thought it might require a firmware update or something but have not found anywhere I could download one.

Does anyone have any ideas?

Hi bodger. I’m not the best person to ask but this video shows someone playing with the spf3000 settings. At one point in the second half it shows the default voltages as 46V and 54V.

I had two running in an earlier life but I have never used them in Lead Acid mode and have thrown away all my personal setting info.

This is from the ShinePlusBus manual, I presume your using that.

The video was interesting, but unfortunately the settings on the SPF3000 are very different to that on the SP2000.

Nowty, the page from the manual you posted is indeed what I'm using. I can make changes using the ShineBusPlus to the battery parameters. And although they do make some sort of difference to the units operations, they don't bear any semblance to its actual behaviour. For instance, I have set the VBat charge and discharge to 58 and the low settings to 44. But in either case the battery is not being drained down to 44V and not charging up to 58V. Where it stops and starts in nowhere near the programmed limits.

I bought the SP2000 second hand, so I am beginning to suspect it's possibly faulty. At this point I'm considering changing to using something like the Sofar ME3000 instead to handle the storage. I would appreciate any opinions on this being a good idea or not though!

For what its worth, the ME3000SP is a far superior unit, that SP2000 has quite a few quirks even when it works.

I sort of recall that the parameter list might not be correct. I'm not 100% sure as I cannot fully remember, but I think the original parameters did not make any sense to me and when I altered the parameters myself, I think it did not do what I expected, so I put the parameters back to what they were but that was OK as I was using the original lithium battery pack.

Its possible the parameters may be the wrong way around, could be the Chinese to English translation. If no one else has got the default parameters to share, all I can suggest is a trial and error approach.

I use lithium with mine so can't really help other than agreeing with Nowty that the SP2000 is qwerky. I have to reset mine every now and then because it get stuck charging at about 50w first thing in the morning and will then continue like that all day.

I'm going to look at using an Arduino to connect to the RS485 bus of the batteries and then use that to convert the data to CAN to communicate with a none Growatt inverter. The Batteries are located in a barn at the moment and in the winter I have to use a very small tubular heater to keep them warm. Relocation would be a lot better and charging from the AC easier.

Thanks for your help and suggestions. I tried tinkering about with the values some more without much success. I liked the Growatt unit, the display showing where the energy is going is intuitive and its a shame I couldn't get it working with my batteries. I suspect it's better suited to the usually supplied Darfon or Pylontech batteries.

So I have taken the plunge and ordered a Sofar ME3000. It should turn up by Monday, so hopefully I can get it up and running during the coming week and start using my batteries to their potential.
