Half price IOG tonight
Half price IOG tonight
I’m hearing rumours of half price IOG tonight from Facebook groups.
It seems to be valid for those charging tonight but not charging tomorrow.
Got to do bath and bed for the kids so can’t investigate further just yet. Check emails!

Re: Half price IOG tonight
With sublime weather set for much of the UK this week, we’ve got an extra special Monday treat to kickstart those sunny adventures…
50% off electricity for your EV and home between 23:30-5:30 tonight.
Yup, that's right: we'll give you 50% off your already super-cheap off-peak rate tonight, as long as you...
Plug your EV in this evening (Monday 28 April) AND
Don't plug in your EV tomorrow evening (Tuesday 29 April)
Give the summer wardrobe a wash, get the wheels charged, or set the dishwasher to task after a spontaneous BBQ. Tick off the list tonight and save while you’re at it.
Wondering why we’re offering half-price energy?
We unlock super-low prices for Intelligent drivers by charging your cars flexibly. This isn’t just about nabbing cheap wholesale rates – we also get compensation through grid-balancing schemes and pass the savings on to you. Over the next two days, we have an exciting chance to show the impact of EV drivers in one such scheme.
How will I get my 50% off discount?
We’ll apply credit to your account within the next 2 weeks (so don’t worry if you can’t see the discount straight away).
What if you schedule some of my smart charging outside of 23:30-05:30 tonight?
That'll be included too: so we'll ALSO make any scheduled smart charging tonight 50% off, even if it's not between 23:30 and 5:30. Score!
Love & power,
The Octopus Energy Team

Re: Half price IOG tonight
How does the: “so long as you don’t plug in tomorrow” part work?

3x 380W JA Solar panels (1.14kWp)
6x 2.4kWh Pylontech batteries (14.4kWh)

(Artist formally known as ******, well it should be obvious enough to those for whom such things are important.)

Re: Half price IOG tonight
God knows... Seems very vague.
Plug your car in at 23:30 and get 3.5p/kWh
Then technically if it still plugged in after 00:00 (tomorrow) you lose the 3.5p and pay normal 7p/kWh?

Re: Half price IOG tonight

I like the idea that they are trying to get a handle for zonal pricing. I'll take the 3.5p tonight and happily leave the EV disconnected tomorrow. No downside.

I’ll get a schedule until 4am.
I’ll turn it off tomorrow evening around 9am and leave it until 6am the following day and see what happens

Re: Half price IOG tonight
The Octopus likes to keep us gamers on our toes.
I'm just back from Heathrow and my EV is at 28% SOC
, after dropping SWMBO off to fly to her mum's for a month, it has been a decade since her last visit to the southern hemisphere.
Its been a rollercoaster here at Nowty Towers, ran almost half the battery stack down last night and I've exported 105 kWh here so far today and I was going to game extra slots on my return, BUT NO, its now keep pumping it into the grid till near midnight, then go into full charge mode on the EV, home batteries and hot water.
Then pump it back out to the grid again from 5:30am at quadruple bubble !
, and leave enough headroom before the tsunami of solar PV comes flooding back in.
Then its be careful not to plug in the EV tomorrow night or else.
But this is far more exciting and lucrative than a simple power hour.

Re: Half price IOG tonight
Having read the Octopus email again I could have gamed extra slots and still enjoyed the half price leccy.
And I had not noticed because the EV was lower than normal the octopus had already given me a schedule and was already EV charging from my home battery for the past hour.
Its all a bit of swings and roundabouts as there are only so many hours in the day / night, so its going to be a compromise with the short notice on the Octopus incentive.
My plan now is to EV charge from midnight to 4am at full power along with full power home battery and hot water. Its too warm now to charge up the storage heaters but I'm going to run the water distiller as that takes about 5 hours to run a full cycle and we have plenty of ironing water to add back to the stock.
Then discharge from 4am as I need to create enough empty space to prevent the battery stack filling up during the day. I'm getting 10kW to 12kW of PV coming in for many hours a day now, half gets exported and half gets to charge the home battery at the same time.
And with SWMBO away I have 2 more panels arriving from City Plumbing tomorrow for another upgrade on the charge controllers. I'm hoping she will have forgotten about the current rear garden PV configuration on her return.
EDIT - I'm running to 5am on the cheapslot now and I have 20kW coming in, so about another £3.50 saving against a normal day.
