Batteries don't well if THEY are cold. If they are just sitting a long time where the ambient temperature is cold, they will be cold. But if they are in use, being charged or discharged, anothr matter. Not 100% efficient in either direction, and that (hopefu;;y small) difference ends up as heat. Especially with big batteries, large ratio of volume to surface area, COOLING SYSTEMS might be needed.
