It's a new one on me. Spotted the other day when I was out for a bike ride -that's a cycle/pedestrian path rather than highway:

I wonder how sensitive the sensors are - how far they see? On a bike path I can imagine most people being past it before the light comes on - unless it can "see" the previous one?
I'm not sure I like the idea of only on when you are underneath them. Obviously it is one way to maximise battery life...
