Not a great deal if you ask me!

Works out as 11.5p/Wp. You can get brand new panels for 15p/Wp. What with the better power density of new panels taking less area and less mountings for the same power output, I don't think they're worth it.

But for starting off if tenners are scarce it's quite a good way into the life?

Maybe, but they’re overpriced IMO!

It does make me wonder what deal would be available at volume? Panel efficiency is low but it does make me want an offgrid cabin in the woods!

I’ve bought 27 used panels in 2 different lots , just like the fact that I’m giving them a new home, they are local to me, and I can self install, and I generally buy stuff over a long period, due to being time poor and then try and complete projects.

I think they will sell.

Its a good way to do it, over time, second hand and at the price when a wee bit of spare cash is going about. We are still mostly overcast up here the noo and will be for the next 5 days but every now and then it flashes up to 2.5kW incoming and it all gets netted into the stack. I am sitting here trying to work out how I can broach the subject of the South facing cabin roof (the side you don't see). Its not the time but who knows what will come later in the year? :D

Imagine you have a garden shed. Maybe 2.5m x 6m.

The roof would fit 6x of the old panels costing £180 making a total of 1560Wp and generating 1560kWh a year which at 15p/kWh is £234. I hope you agree that is a stonking return. Sure you'd need a £200 used inverter, some cables/connecotrs, and to mount the panels, etc.

However you'd be able to fit 5x 575W panels on the same roof which would cost £545 inc VAT (https://www.bimblesolar.com/575w-canadian-solar-panel) giving you a total of 2875Wp and generating you 2875kWh per year which at 15p is £430. So that is nearly double the return on the same area of roof with the same inverter and mounting/cabling costs.
