Why bother with Air Source Heat Pump
Why bother with Air Source Heat Pump
Now that the Domestic Renewable Heat Incentive ends on March 31st why bother to get something installed?
I was thinking about having an Air Source Heat Pump installation but will miss out of £7,000 of Gov repayments due to the scheme ending.
I could still have the install and then suddenly find in 12 months they announce another scheme.
Hardly an incentive to install is it.

Re: Why bother with Air Source Heat Pump
No one paid for me to put central heating into my house!
You could probably find a plumber and electrician to fit it cheaper than in the scheme anyway.

Re: Why bother with Air Source Heat Pump
The money from these “schemes” goes straight into the pockets of the installers. The cost of solar dropped spectacularly as soon as FiTs ended. The cost of a BEV charging point was the same with/without the grant…
A heat pump is a very simple device, basically a big fridge compressor. There is no reason the cost is as high as it is currently other than rampant profiteering by the suppliers/installers.
Won’t be long before you’ll be able to buy/install a heat pump for a few grand.

12x 340W JA Solar panels (4.08kWp)
3x 380W JA Solar panels (1.14kWp)
5x 2.4kWh Pylontech batteries (12kWh)
LuxPower inverter/charger
(Artist formally known as ******, well it should be obvious enough to those for whom such things are important.)

Re: Why bother with Air Source Heat Pump
£6k plus fitting (and any new rads etc) for a huge 17kW system
https://www.tradesparky.com/solarsparky ... ses-valves
Would have got me £7,000 in rebates off Gov over 7 years.
Just needs an MSC Registered installer.
So the unit would have cost me MINUS £1,000 under the Scheme - Id have been paid to have it.
I'd have needed it installed either way to ensure correct sizing etc.

Re: Why bother with Air Source Heat Pump
That's the killer, I bought an ex display GSHP as new for £1000 and fitted it myself. No RHI payments for me even though it works as good as an MCS one.

Totally agree with you on this one. What I've been saying for years.Stinsy wrote: ↑Fri Mar 18, 2022 5:03 pm The money from these “schemes” goes straight into the pockets of the installers. I remember your excellent thread on the DIY project, now unfortunately shredded in the past, I really enjoyed it.ecogeorge wrote: ↑Fri Mar 18, 2022 8:14 pm I went to an x forum sale and paid £100 for a lkw (3kw to water) air to water heatpump..... use for hr a day in mornings (economy 7) to take chill off 3 bed semie and during day in summer to heat 8' blow up pool . Maybe you can re-wet our memories with a couple of pics of the main bits if you still have them.
So glad its all still working fine for you, and just think you haven't paid some MCS bloke £10k for it.
