EPC sent onward to EST folk. Maybe mid Jan for the grant coming our way? :oO:

I have no real awareness whether this figure is just good or really excellent. It's more than double the Scottish average score of 59, that's sad. The bar being so low.

I will probably go for a a full one once the windows are in although the surveyor said they don't make that much difference to the score as we have reasonably recent 2g. :o i thought, followed by  then swiftly onto  where's the 7.5G pal?

I'm going for a self anointment of 'really excellent' with a soupcon of must try harder and apply oneself.. Now where did I hear that before? :D
I would say that you have got the "really excellent" mark too.

Like yourself I am chasing the best possible energy efficiency .... but it is a multi year process!

Good luck with the windows when they come - I followed your advice and got the Zero90 frames with 3G and I have been impressed with them so far.

I could easily improve a bad EPC, couldn’t move the house to a different location
Those are surely the requirements for looking for a house.
You need to know area, budget and what type of house before you can then start look at individual houses.

Well.done Sir! :xl: Nobody (4).trades I have shown them to are aware of them. It looks like they truly were built for a spec rolled back.

Where's the biggest impact for you with them?

Apparently my glazers have the ordered sample of full 90 (not R) as ordered a month and a half ago. Looking forward to seeing it. I'm trying to keep in centre of mind to allow time for these guys. Their skills etc are good but not within 3G world and the price is right. I'm looking for 2 out of 3 so that's price & quality. Time can slip. Once they're here they'll get the same filled rolls as the ashp guys and plenty kettle. 😀

You’ve got 2 out of 3 for a customer/contractor. :hysteria:

In my experience the common for both sides is communication - once it breaks down (or is never established) forget it.

Think you and your trades are doing a great job so far Joe - really enjoying this thread.

Likewise I didn't find anyone locally who knew about them and what annoyed me was the constant trying to get me to change to something easier for them. In the end I ordered from a company in Manchester and with their delivery I was really happy with the price. The other thing I found when trying to get quotes is no-one responds promptly and on average it took 3 calls to get a response on anything .... so I didn't bother getting a company to fit.

Incidentally, the Manchester company told me that the frames are all made up in Scotland then shipped all over the UK .... so that might have been why I couldn't find anyone that knew about them.

The weight and size of the frames is noticeable and I have installed the first window myself (with a helping pair of hands) and over the course of the weekend/Monday I will install the other and the door.

I like the black metal between the sheets of glass - it looks better than the silver in my opinion and the middle pane of glass was pretty much invisible. The only reason I could see it was because of the etched details in the corner of each pane of glass.

When fitting the glass units into the frame I was amazed at how well they fit. There was no need for any packers at all and the bridging clips in the frame where just a very snug fit. In the past fiddling with packers and trying to centre the glass was a real PITA.

I haven't noticed the energy saving yet as the house is still partially open to the elements - but I will let you know once everything is sealed up. Even with the house being partially open the gable wall end upgrade has been very noticeable .... even my wife commented on the house being warmer already and she really does not notice things (took 2 days to notice the 6ft Christmas tree had been put up despite walking past it 20 times a day!! :o ).

But anyway - big thank you for the heads up on the windows.

That's dhw dialled in 70/30/30 for minute timing. This is bare minimumn at our place.

Went downstairs to make a cuppa and it's just getting it done (space heating).with no fanfare and incredible efficiency. I am looking forward to getting the insulation wall works done in the New Year. This will change the graph again.

3G is another one of those enhancements that is more in practice than on paper!

Firstly 2G isn't all the same. If it isn't modern A-rated 2G then it'll leak heat like no tomorrow. However, the problem isn't just the amount of heat lost. a thin film of cold air forms against the glass this sinks sucking warm air to replace it. The effect is a cold draught. So even if the room actually is warm, it feels cold. 3G dramatically reduces these "cold draughts" and results in less heat being required to feel warm.
