I've stopped the end of the job until we come back from Turkey on 25th April. I was OK with them installing the glazing units while we were away but this is now different with the wrong size frames. I'll be here to ensure all done and sealed in properly.
Did they notice the frames were wrong before or after they took the old ones out?
They trialed the frame up to the existing first without removing the glazing so that was good.

Beautiful new set of patio doors fitted too. A shame they open out rather than in which was discussed (twice). That is one big ass doorset and represents a fair chunk of the profit for the job?

So far we have had
Two trapezoidal glazing units broken in transit
Two trapezoidal frames wrongly built at factory
One French door set wrongly built on I suspect the wrong info.

The first two are on window supply Ltd and the doorset is on ksm.

Other than that it's going well. Side door is in and looks great, kitchen window is going in as I type. I've spoken to one of the owners about 'due diligence' and what it means. In particular to their profit margin.

This is an abject lesson in why you split payment. Small bit first for materials with majority held back until all happy with job.

It really doesn't sound like they're going to make a profit on the job!

It's a damn shame as the attention to detail in fitting has been outstanding. One of the directors is/has been treated for cancer during all this 6 months and maybe it's slipped his mind. I am absolutely rooting for them but they've got to tighten up on some aspects. I hope they make it and grow well. They deserve to.

They've said with no hesitation that they'll get new doors ordered. I've said to swmbo to take a look when back from Edinburgh and we'll go from there.Im OK with them but I'm a daftie.

Joe, from my perspective, opening out works, but it all depends what you and SWMBO want.

We had new French doors fitted a couple of years ago as part of a ‘bay’ renew.

Consequently, the inward opening doors are within the footprint of the old bay.

My view, and I’m sure you’ve done your own due diligence, inward opening into a squarer/flatter room will lose usable space.

Sorry for sort of butting in !

I think reviewing after a bit of breathing space is a good idea.

The mishaps with glazing gave me the chance for a quick side by side test. 2g v's 3g.

Guess which is which?

The figures tell it but the real difference is eyes closed, full palm on both glazing systems at the same time. Straight up, my left hand just about recoiled on its own.

Thank you btb, much appreciated. We have fierce Xwinds here so inwards is better. I'll let SWMBO have the final call on it . 35 years together, I have some small awareness of the game!

I absolutely love this side door.

No probs Joe.

Must say, all of the windows/doors fitted look crisp and modern - apart from the thermal and sonic improvements, the general look will be so much better - apologies, but your replaced windows were showing their age.
