My house, which is mostly 1970s and around 170 square meters, has a heat loss of just under 7 kW, so I would think a 100 year old 370m2 house would likely need more than 8.5kW.

Plumber is doing the heat loss calcs.
I’ll post his findings when I get them.
I have to say it has been really challenging trying to find someone who understands heat pumps etc, around here, and who will actually turn up

Maybe, maybe not! He says the insulation has been thoroughly upgraded. If the insulation has been upgraded to a high standard then 8.5kW is genuinely realistic. Particularly if (as I say) there is secondary heating for the coldest conditions.

Good luck getting it sorted yuff.

I think we had an estimated 26kW+ heat loss when I ran it through one of those calculators you can find online: https://www.cityplumbing.co.uk/heat-loss-calculator

100+ years old.
Solid brick.
3 storey semi detached.
Approx.. 350m²

*Runs to Google OWI*

Edit....couldn't find anything. I assume it was a typo then and not some specialist insulation? :whako-teapot:

Likely just EWI, or external wall insulation.
If you don't mind a potentially major change to your house appearance then it could make an enormous difference to heating requirements.
10x 405W JA Solar panels (4.05kWp) @ 5 degrees
3x 405W Longi panels (1.22kWp) @ 90 degrees

Solis inverter/charger
0.6kW Ripple WT
64kWh Kia E-Niro

Yeah I'm thinking he meant internal rather than external due to the O being close to the I.... Hehe

.... But anyways yeah...

Can't really afford external. I've looked at grants, etc but nothing going.

I had a company in do a survey to see if if could get help with regards to internal insulation and the guy seemed to think could get help towards most of the costs, but then a few weeks after got told the application was "cancelled down" with not a lot of explanation why. Maybe they run out grant funding. I've emailed them since to see why and no response.

Can't really afford internal at the moment either hehe

Don’t the grants run in tandem with the tax year, so all available funding will have been used for 24/25?
I would have thought an application fir the grant will have a better chance of success next month, if my theory/memory is right! :xx:

I think so Yuff.. this was in October last year.

I'm keeping an eye out for any next month.
