I like that the 3G glazing is plastic wrapped to protect it.

SWMBO has cleverly set up a 2 city break commencing Weds & Thursday in Dundee before going onward to Edinburgh until Monday. Train as we can't expect EV back by then.

I'll mostly be making coffee and filled rolls. :D Should have time to start the French drain/King post hole for the vanport. 8-)

First window roughed in by 11.30. Second is on its way out. I reckon 3 a day? 8-)

Second old window held in by expanding foam only, not a single screw!

Stinsy, been through to first room and can feel that warm inner pane thing you spoke of around four Winters ago.

That throwaway line was in fact the catalyst for this 3g upgrade. Cheers! :D

Interesting about the old frames.....

So only difference is loads of small cavities inside frames, instead of a few larger ones.

good that you're supplying them with tea, because when you have tea, you have hope, and when you have hope, you can achieve anything.

very impressive new windows - I know a guy in Norfolk who recycles plastics, and he said that most double glazed frames are not recycled as there are 17 different types of plastic in them, and it's just too difficult. He does recycle old plastic frames, and I think is the biggest company in the uk to do so.

It was quite an interesting read as there's a load of design, removal of thermal bridges, seal shape, material type. The list goes on but yes it is mostly about the isolated airpockets and many of them at that.

Even with the first window only being roughed in it's already 1deg C warmer on its frame than its Northern facing old pal who's still in situ.

Found a wall in upstairs bedroom once cill popped off with no insulation on the plasterboard.

It now has 100mm earthwool fitted and all the better for it. :D
Vermiculite top up on shallow spots of the ceiling insulation next.

I know that Window supply company do it too. They have a huge skip at their premises in Alten's. There's also the Liniair connection in that they re cycle frames to go into the zero90 product. Percentage of old frames in new and uplift of old frames connection sadly I don't know. Tbh, I was hooked at Uw0.6 and was just glad to see that X amount of recycled material went in.

Kudos to the man in Norfolk for doing it. Any idea where the chipped product goes afterwards? It is after all a FF product. The more relife cycles the better. :xl:

Looks like it's 2 windows for the day. Note the glazing bar through the doorglass. :D

Image

The difference already- 3g frame is 16.3 degs v's adjacent wall at 15.6 degs. That's taken us from a 20.7% loss through the frame to a 5% gain. That is quite a shift.

Image

I like that they stopped at two installed and are tidying, completeing external finishing and also prepping for tomorrow. Rather that than trying to rush and costing quality 👌 Very impressed.

Later edit (17.00hrs)- both the ceiling in daughterly's bedroom after the remedial insulation above and her 3g window(Southern) and the bead/glazing in the front(Northern) 3g window are sitting at 17.1 degs. Three points at 17.1 degs

The front lounge(Northern) bead/glazing corner point 2g window is sitting at 15.6 degs.

From my endless pursuit of chasing temperature upwards over the years I know that 0.5 degs gain is a huge win and tangible instantly. 1.5 deg by comparison is a massive, massive win. I am over the moon with that. :D

Like with so many things it’ll be a multiplier! Your HP will run less and at a lower setting, this will reduce the load on your batteries and inverter. However the change wont be linear, you’ll still have the heat given off by appliances and people…
12x 340W JA Solar panels (4.08kWp)
3x 380W JA Solar panels (1.14kWp)
6x 2.4kWh Pylontech batteries (14.4kWh)
LuxPower inverter/charger

(Artist formally known as ******, well it should be obvious enough to those for whom such things are important.)

Aye, it all feels a bit Sorcerer's apprentice tbh. I've kind of steamrollered the RE in the last year or so. I keep coming back to the massive benefits of insulation and air leak chasing. Get that right along with ventilation and it all falls into place.

Even today, this far into the journey I've found insulation leaks that are instant tangible improvement once addressed, that very second type thing. Don't get me wrong, I love the tech but ye cannae beat skinning a mammoth and wrapping up warm.

Or it's 21st century equivalent, sorry...

Just found myself standing in the going dark, opening and closing the window to enjoy the audio cutout. 😀

Normal lives somewhere else today.
