The last one of these I fitted a few years ago. The heat exchanger came preloaded with gas. Hooked it up, opened the isolation valves on the exchanger and we were off and running with cool air. Didn't use vac gauges or anything which was a surprise. Used to get about 4 years out of a system running 24/7/365.

4 years until what? It had to be re-gassed? I fitted mine in 2020, one external unit and 3 internal units, and flared the copper piping myself and used a vacuum pump to clear the system before opening the external valve to release the gas. So 2 years now running and all ok, so interested to see what it may need in 4 years?

4 years until it failed and was replaced..Different environment though to UK. Africa or Middle East and ran always. The units in Turkey home last about 7 to 9 years, a regas in amongst it then changed out. Give the fins on the heat exchanger a wash out to clear dust once per year. Clean.internal air filter every few months and that's about it. Used to use a compressor airhose to blast out the dust and fine sand every few months on the heat exchanger in Saudi and noticed an immediate improvement.

Blimey, failed from what? I'm hoping mine lasts a lot lot longer than 4 years! Its used for heating 2 rooms in the winter months, and then cooling 3 in the summer, although it doesnt run 24/7 and doesnt work hard I think, temps are set to 23/24degs, so will hopefully last decades?

Don't worry, you'll be fine!
I'm talking about a LOT of hard hours with no relenting in a harsh environment.

Ah, sh**e. Regrets at that....
Ain't going to get colder in the UK. Even up here, there is an 8 week window where I've spoken of aircon. Import opportunity.
