My house dropped below 18 this morning, the little storage heater mopping up left-over PV hasn't been cutting it with less sunshine and colder nights recently. Sunny again this morning and due to warm up slightly over the weekend so I should be able to hold off firing up the GCH for a bit longer (I always try to wait until the end or October but usually give in before then).

Despite that we just don't ever feel the this house is cool, if anything it feels the opposite.

Weird thing perception.
21 is my perfect temp, getting down to 19 is red alert territory! We are £4 per day to heat the whole house, fully charge the stack and put 90 miles range on the 🚗 at the same time . Then remove whatever the daily take has been at WT1. (3p to £5 depending).
Cold spots are a comfort killer. Eradicate them and quality of life improves significantly.
Definitely. We are in a different place. Maybe partly from force of circumstances, partly because we (think we) like it.
Our old house (which we still live in) has been progressively upgraded over the years and the CH was designed (by us 40 years ago) to give a background temp of 16 deg c, topped up by point sources of heat in rooms we sit in. So the GCH should nowadays keep the house warmer than 16.

We don't mind summer temperatures being nice and warm, like being on holiday around the Med, but in winter we don't like being in buildings which are much warmer than our 16 or maybe 20, probably because we find the humidity too low (and are wearing "winter" clothes,) and definitely prefer lower temperatures for sleeping anyway.

Well that's my no gas run at an end. 17th Feb 22 to 19th Oct 22 was a gas free zone at Casa De. 244 days to beat next year.

The gas price on the 19th Oct was 1.91p per kWh, today it is 2.48p per kWh. The disparity between the two power sources is too great now that I'm buying every night. Still going to run the home on SH's and WBS across the Winter. Will cherrypick the days when I run the HWT on gas as the price will have to be right.

I guess there's a lesson here for me. Don't rip the gas connection out as world politics & market forces will scupper yer best intentions. 👌

Still pretty warm here with no heating yet, and if it stays mild like this we'll not need heat for at least a week or two more:

In the past we've had the heating on by now at least once since we've lived here, although it's not unusual for us to go to early to mid-November before the heating comes on for the first time. We do have the advantage of a mild climate down here, and the shelter of the deep valley we live at the bottom of. Right now it's 16°C outside, forecast to get to maybe 17° or 18°C later today, so the house heat loss rate is pretty negligible.

No gas usage for spaceheating here yet. According the the Hive thermostat by my front door it is 18.2℃. I'm running my A2A for the last 30 mins of the cheap period (0600-0630) just because 1.9p/kWh is too cheap to pass up.

The weather forecast is for the unseasonably mild weather to last another 2 weeks at least so I cannot see me using any gas for spaceheating until mid-November.

That's good to hear. I was at a charity event for Ukraine today. Hard to imagine sitting there in the sunshine having a coffee & cake that Winter is coming. Made me count my blessings 🙌, really did.

SWMBO said there was rumour of an Indian Summer, good news if that's the case? I have set myself a gas buy limit of 3.84p per kWh for HWT. This is a 30% discount on my current electricity price and also has a 20% boiler inefficiency worked into it. TBH, I'm not that comfortable even with that so we'll see how it goes. Had to set my stall out somewhere!

I have two storage heaters coming on in the Go window and they have been keeping downstairs at 16.5 degs. Upstairs is a bit nippier at 14.5 degs but there's nobody up there.

Brighton finally getting chillier, around 7c last night, 5c forecast tonight. So my storage heaters are finally getting some work to do.

I've been experimenting with them even as its been milder, varying the amount of on-time in my GoFaster cheap window to see how much they warmed a room up but till now they've not had a lot of work to do.

Happy to say that even this morning after a night of 7c, the house feels pretty good. I'm mostly measuring success by how often the GCH fires up. Each room has an Evohome TRV so I can set heat demand per room quite precisely and see which room is calling for heat.

Every room that has a SH in is way above the 17c setpoint; more like 20c which is a good result. The guest bedroom that has no SH has fallen away to 17c and is occasionally calling for heat, but thats ok as it also warms up the bypass bathroom towel radiator and dries the towels :)

So far, good result! Between the batteries, SH, and bedroom A2A heating, I did import 40kWh of electricity last night though  At least it was all at 8.25p and will have saved me a good amount of gas (at 10.3p).

18.5 degs throughout with WBS/SH running today. Below zero last night. Not going to look at the power used anymore, just gonna live the life! :)

I stagger the switch on sequence where I can so everything isn't kicking in at the same moment. I limit the EV charging to 4kW, the SH's, stack charging and HWT combined are pulling 85A at peak. That's a lot but at my current contract it's only £1.13 per hour. SWMBO is happy and TBH I do believe in 'Happy wife, Happy life'. 😊 It's all 👍.
