Our WBS is in a large inglenook style fire place with a slate lintel thats maybe 300kg or there about on its own, with the stone around the sides and above it theirs probably about a tonne of thermal mass immediate to the stove. The lintel is usually still warm to the touch when we come down in a morning :)

In the last 7 days we have used a mighty 15.4 kWh of gas. That's entirely on me as I had the Hive upper zone set to come on at the same time as the storage heater instant element, the temps dipped and the GCH kicked in up there before the SH could do its work.

There will be no more of that nonsense going forward. I can hardly credit that there was a time we were blithely burning 135kWh gas each day!

I bet that standing charge is starting to feel expensive!

£80 a year for 20 years is £1600.

That buys 11x 330W panels from Bimble.

We are 15.09p per day so £55 pa. Point taken though. I have found that SWMBO is really engaging with RE now. The day may yet come when she says, shut off the gas.

An excellent day today prepping log areas for tomorrows inflow of logs. Spoke to SWMBO after all the work had been completed and floated the idea of installing the spare storage heater in the front lounge. Glad I was chilling out as I almost fell over when she said 'OK'!

Just been down to cabin for a look and I think this might be a 3 element job which would be a further 67.5kg's of thermal mass. I've got 2 days of logging, then a Camelot guy coming over to see the batteries, then we are trading in the Leaf, then its my Birthday so this SH may be a few days before install. Lucky we have a single spare hive plug knocking about so we'll be good to go quite quickly.

I reckon this SH will put me up at the 100A fuse limit and its safe to say that we are now ready for WT1 to crank, game on!

Any Gas engineers care to hazard a guesstimate figure on efficiencies of the average wet heating system gas boiler side? I reckon these SH's are as close to 100% as you can get?

252Kgs WS TM
180Kgs SH TM
67.5Kgs Future SH TM

That's 499.5 Kgs TM! I'm calling it a 1/2 tonne by including the cooking slates on top of the WS.

The pic below is at 17.53 hrs tonight and the SH power has been off since 02.30 hrs. I have the output set at 9 so i'm not exactly holding back.

Just checked the Gas meter and we have used 5 Cubic Mtrs in the last 5 days, that places us at around 340kWh for the month if all was linear, bitchin! That's a 90% reduction in gas consumption January 21 compared to Jan 22. Holy canasta Batman!

Final SH going in today as its too windy to be out working. This takes us to 7.65kW SH load with a storage capacity of 38.25kWh across a 5 hour run. That is a true milestone for us. Will be interesting to see if SWMBO says its too hot? :D

This is quite a slim unit as storage heaters go yet its out in the open so to speak so its having a rad cover bought for it.

Well that was easy, no dry joints on this unit! That gas fire has been off for years! Just checked Hive. Across the last eight days the GCH downstairs has been for a total of one hour.
Upstairs I have to go back a full eleven days for GCH to have burned for an hour. This is epic!
