More Renewable Shenanigans at Stinsy Towers

Right!

Formal sign-off from SWMBO has been received! I'm officially copying Nowty's A2A installation!

Been on the blower to Octopus today and am going for Octopus Go Faster 7.5/35p 0230-0630 from August (having previously been on 5/15p 2030-0030). I currently pay 7.5p/kWh for gas and expect that to rise to 15ish p/kWh by October.

The HP with a COP of 4 gives me an effective 1.9p/kWh of heat output in the cheap period and 8.75p/kWh on peak electric. Which is a no-brainer compared to gas (at my assumed prices) so the HP can work 24/7 rather than just in the cheap-period. The new timeslot will mean my resistive heating is used to get the house up to temperature in the morning rather than to maintain overnight temperatures. Also timing the dishwasher/washing machine is more complex and creates noise concerns (DS2 sleeps above the washer).

Actual A2A HP installation will be end of this month / beginning of next month. And there are a few complications: External unit is going high on a wall, internal unit is going on an internal wall so I'll need to install a condensate pump, power will be on a new circuit with a long run needed. I don't see the install being a one-day-wonder but plenty of time 'till winter!

I'm not very good at posting step-by-step pictures (I'm a bit "in the zone" while working) but I'll do my best keep you guys up-to-date on progress/results.

it can be a bit of a faff, I sometimes set up my lappy somewhere strategic and set the timer to get some pics, or even a timelapse of the day.

What's the make and model??

I don't know why they don't make 'heat only' A/A models (just sell modified remote and smart controls for heaven's sake). Then there'd be no excuse for them to not to attract subsidies in the same way A/W do (and I like these far more than A/W).

Oh interesting. Not a make I'm familiar with. Can't wait to hear about progress.
