The general concept is pretty interesting, essentially products like these display peak human ingenuity and cost efficiency.

It's a double edged sword though since in making this product so unbelievably cost effective, the manufacturer loses control or knowledge of its own product.

For instance this heater will be made of parts, every one of those parts will be made by a another company, most will specialise in that one particular part, say the mains switch.

That company can produce the switch at such a low price due to economics of scale as it will work in many products, they also cover the specialist R&D to make a reliable effective switch as cheaply as possible.

You just then build a product out of these individual, highly specialised and optimised pieces.

The problem is that you then, as the manufacturer have issues understanding the choices and optimisations used for those individual parts and eventually you no longer really know anything about how your products work.

Buy small heaters & fans in the opposite season of use & a ceramic heater may be £6, a fan heater £3 (portables)
A low end oil rad on wheels for £14, (500-700 watts) & a 1500 a for around £25

The delonghi Dragon* is a different story always commanding high prices, even the catalogue dented returns.
New, the best price I tend to see is Costco

*very good heat up times from cold, funnels heat fast.

Sadly dimplex priced themselves out of the market, & no replaceable parts, all but gone from stores, the dumb asses

Pre cooling fan season, look at the likes of cpc, farnell & the like, big floor fans cheap.

This winter though maybe stock up on decent fleeces, tops, jackets, hats & blankets, we've got a Russian dictator who may get removed & a revolution or two to add into the energy crisis & supply issues.
Tonight we put MrTank's fleece on him, it was 17.9 in the front room.

Don't forget the good old tube heaters of which Dimplex are still a reliable option.

My assortment of tube heaters are now re-appearing around the house in cold corners and on windowsills, available in a range of low wattages they keep condensation and black mould at bay throughout the winter and don't cost the earth to run.

I have one for brewing, very good it is too under insulation.

I have one of those old tubular heaters (probably as old as me) re-purposed as a frost protection heater in our well shed. It's tucked under the 300 litre accumulator that evens out the pressure fed up to the house, and as the ground water we pull up is already down at 8°C, I felt it made sense to fit a frost protection thermostat (set to 4°C) to turn on the tubular heater and just help take the chill off the water in the accumulator. The only real risk is when we go away for Christmas hols, where no water could get used for days, allowing the accumulator to cool down enough to be at risk of freezing.

I thought the opposite when I bought my SH from Dimplex!

My wee dimplex tube heater was via eBay as a job lot of brewing kit, I forgot how pricey they were.
