Giving the supplier the ability to remotely switch heaters on and off when power is cheap seems like a good option to me, that seems to be the logic for many EV tariffs, but not sure how that works with a traditional E7 wired heaters.
This is where you and I differ, I see that as a cynical ploy to screw us down the road 'somewhere'

I would much rather retain complete control over what gets turned on or off and when. Obviously, I'm at the mercy of tech, and after working in the business for 30+ years I know it can go wrong and go wrong it does.

It just seems odd that they are pushing the virtues of smart meters and yet this specifically requires you to have OLD ones if I recall. I still have an old fuse box that was specifically for E7 I think, I couldn't tell you which plugs are wired into that.

Depending on the size of the heater,

1) A cheap timer will do.

2) A heavy duty timer will do, i.e. the type used by the hydroponic folk. ;)

3) Or use a cheap time to trigger a higher power contractor.

Nowty Towers has employed all three methods at one time or another.

What is a higher power contractor? Is it someone who eats much more than normal folk and woeks much harder as a result?
