I'm looking at storage heaters - "but oh my", the cost even for S/H !!

As per the topic, I started having a look around last week but have been dishearten by the cost of these relatively simple devices.

Even the S/H ones seem to be bathed in gold and sweat from a virgins thigh !!

Am I missing something with these devices?, Do they contain significantly more complex electrical wizardry than I can see in the diagrams or do the shops have very large windows to see people coming a mile off and we're getting screwed?

I was considering getting 1-2 in to test with the TOU tariffs I'm on with a view to heating a room throughout the day and maybe one off peak instead of the GFCH then later supplementing PV as a source throughout the day.

I've started reading the 38 page thread and gathering some good info, but a long way to go.
PV 1.1kWh
Victron Multiplus 8K II 48v/100A + Victron 150/35 charge controller + lynx 1000
CerboGX, 25kW Pylontech batteries
Octopus Agile - Cheaper Battery Charging
Another 2.3kWh on the horizon - ground mount+575's

Search “storage heaters” on here, you will find several threads about them.

New they are a nightmare on cost and the new smart “lot 20” regs which make them not workable with solar diverter unless you butcher them.

But plenty second hand on eBay so don't give up and reliable as hell. Normally you have to collect them as they are so heavy.
15.2kW PV > 100MWh generated
Ripple 6.6kW Wind + 4.5kW PV > 18MWh generated
5 Other RE Coop's
105kWh EV storage
60kWh Home battery storage
40kWh Thermal storage
GSHP + A2A HP's
Rain water use > 490 m3

Thank you kindly I can narrow my search somewhat .

I was just reading that some Storage heaters may contain Asbestos, I assume these might be from some time ago, but you can never be too sure.

That’s for 50 year old heaters!

Stick to 30 year old and you will be fine

Didn't someone put some bricks in an oven last year? You can buy some pretty cheap 13 amp ovens...
Solar PV: 6.4kW solar PV (Eurener MEPV 400W*16)
PV Inverter: Solis 6kW inverter
Batteries: 14.4kWh LiFePO4 batteries (Pylontech US5000*3)
Battery Inverter: LuxPowertek 3600 ACS*2 battery inverter
WBS: 8kW Hunter Avalon 6 Multifuel burner (wood only)
