Octopus COSY tariff - Cosy Boost Credits

#1

Post by SporranMcDonald »

I posted this previously, then deleted it, because . . . . . I was hoping it would be a forecasting and notification procedure. Upon further thought it can only be a discount calculated from historic data, retrospectively applied. Something like the OAP extremely cold weather payment top-up.
It's a welcome additional discount from Octopus for Heat Pump users ( on COSY tariff ). :xl:

The text below seems to imply that the user will somehow know that the Cosy Boost is coming and will adjust the HP to work harder during the cold spell. . . . or is it just my (mis-)understanding.

From the 1st February til the end of 2025, we’ll apply a £1 Cosy Boost credit to your Octopus account any evening the temperature drops below zero degrees in your area (based on the average temperature between 12pm and 6pm according to ERA5 weather data).

The Cosy credit helps you to warm up sooner by covering the cost of turning up your heating for around 30 minutes before your super cheap rate period starts. Read more about how Cosy Octopus rates work.

We’ll automatically apply any Cosy Boost credits within two weeks, so if the temperature drops below zero, just boost your target temperature up around half an hour before the off-peak period starts.

Thanks Sporran, my sister and husband have just gone on Cosy so I'll pass that news on to them.
