Rise in standing charges "Unjust"

Any news worthy story. Good things to watch at the Cinema, Theatre, on TV or have you read a good book lately?

I think I said previously that its in effect a tax on electrification and therefore indirectly an extra tax on renewables, letting FF off the hook.

The largest part of the increase is to pay for the 30 or so failed supply companies but the biggest driver for the failures has been the cost of gas and not leccy. But as not everyone has mains gas there has been a decision to stick ALL the cost of the failed supply companies onto ONLY leccy standing charges.

It’s a cynical, regressive, regional tax.

Morally and socially wrong.

The regional tax part is a transfer of some network charges from unit rates to standing charge and I think a second tranche is still to come. So if you are heavy user your bill will be lower that it would have been. But its regressive as low users now pay more, but the reasoning was agreed by OFGEM several years ago when they did a consultation and the reasoning was wealthier people could dodge the unit rate charge by using solar and batteries therefore it was unfair on poor people.

And I recall that not many people moaned about it at the time because it was going to be implemented several years in the future, then was delayed by Covid, but now the future has arrived.

Hello Ladies / Gents

Does any one know if the standing charge for a three phase supply is any different to a single phase supply.

Pondering about the cost of getting three phase supply / more p. v. panels

Noooooooooooo, don't go there !!!!! :?

Nowty Towers is in big trouble there, unless they credit me for my reactive export, which almost certainly they wont.

But would not be possible until Smart meters became mandatory and everyone non Smart meter was replaced. So if it ever happened its a long way off.
I believe the the UK you are already effectively charged for it, but it's not itemised on a bill like it is in other countries.

Commercial supply is charged or is required to sort it out before supplier I think.

Obviously it makes alot of sense for smart meters to eventually do this for domestic and certainly they are capable (when programmed right) of doing so.

I think Powerwalls have already had some unforeseen issue with certain meters that is/was related?

I'm not really sure of the details.

Same. I dont even think the suppliers know who has 3 phase. I had to inform them when they kept asking me if i wanted a smart meter.
