Russia is doing well as it continues to shoot itself in the foot and drive forward the uptake of RE in the EU while denying itself the 'sinews of war', well done Vladimir! I am so glad we have killed off almost all of our gas use regardless of its source. A fortunate coincidence.
Yes it's incredible what Russia / Putler has achieved here. They have made RE and battery storage and heat pumps cost competitive with gas today, even without considering the externality costs of FF's.
So all of the above changes will now get turbo-charged. Perhaps the UK may expand its shrinking gas storage too, to help mitigate price fluctuations in the future (but obviously not the extreme current ones).
Will any countries trust Russia going forward, when planning short and especially medium and long term energy plans.
I feel really bad saying this because the suffering of Ukraine is horrific, but Putler's actions will probably prove massively beneficial for RE, and European energy economics in the medium and long term.

Good we are helping to squeeze Putin. I hope the coup comes soon.

Behind the scenes the western govs are on a war footing without guns and at any cost they are going to make it possible to get off Russian gas.
The worlds biggest tankers in the world are queing up at Milford Haven etc to offload gas which can be sent to EU as gas or leccy. I have no doubt we have a USA promise to supply us with as much gas as we can get through- its a very cheap way of fighting a war!

Shame the wind isn’t blowing! I’m all for squeezing Putin but the electric we’re sending to the EU comes from burning gas…
True but the point is it isn't Russian gas.

I agree with all of that. But Germany, Italy, Netherlands, et al, are still sending vast quantities of cash to Putin funding his war in Ukraine. They seem to have found a way to pretend to pay in Euros too (that still props u the Ruble). Also the gas coming form the US in those tankers has a horrific amount of CO2e associated because of all the methane leakage involved in the fracking that produced it.
It is really frustrating that countries such as Germany got themselves hooked on Putin's cheap gas in the first place, and that the "solution" is quite so polluting!
