Shell

Shell are buying quite a large Indian RE company. I also noted on their (Shell) last update that they are going to report RE as a separate line from Q2 22..

Could be that a combination of investor pressure on the old guard and Rishi Sunak's spend the profits on RE or suffer a windfall tax could bear some further unexpected fruit?

My problem with this sort of thing is that it doesn't bring extra RE to the table it just changes who owns what, I would hope that a business as experienced and as big as Shell would have the where with all to go out and build their own RE organically.

This sort of thing appears as just cherry picking and grasping for profit rather than being a responsible company contributing to a global issue using their skills and expertise in energy to promote a new section of their business.

Sorry on this occasion I think its disappointing that they invested in RE in this form.

That's one way of looking at it..They do the other stuff too and will continue to expand all they purchase. BP do the same, I get what they are doing and yes it can be viewed as greenwash but that's not all of it. There is no lilywhite and if i had billions in my coffers I'd sure as hell cherrypick. Why not?

You get a running start and buy expertise in the field and area of operation, then you grow it. A monster outfit like Shell will be able to make a large impact in RE growth. Better to have them in pissing out than vv. Just one man's take on it...

yes I can see that angle too JB, it would just have been nice to see something like Shell buy Indian RE business to strengthen its existing XXX in house RE portfolio - maybe its the communications people under playing it but seems like a wasted chance to "flex" the whole of the businesses capability in a few sound bites. Equally it would be nice to have read Shell buys indian RE company and pledges to invest XXX in new projects and growth?

I dunno I like to think I'm pretty well informed on RE but when I hear SHELL or BP I still think Oil and Gas and nowt much else so how is the man in the person in the street ever going to seen them differently ?

I'm with Moxi.
I don't trust multinationals to honour the philosophy of the companies they take over. It is probable that they will look at it as an easy win and a bit of greenwashing as a side benefit, while driving it for a bigger return on their investment (abandoning any social objectives or commitment of the company almost by definition).

Shell energy seem not to be bothering with their customers. Even now, they have not changed the rate details, as seen on their smart meter readouts.

In April they increased the gas rate per kWh seen on the smart meter, They have just changed the leccy kWh rate and standing charge. They have still not changed the gas standing charge yet.

They have, however apparently charged the higher rates (as informed previously) on the current bill. Smart meter charge indications are thus far lower than that invoiced! Just crass operation on their part, IMO.

Well , i suppose , it is an easy one for them to green-wash their image now , once we consumed their fossil fuels and brought down prices of renewables , well thats business , but a not deserved one for Shell
