Drax at it Again!

Any news worthy story. Good things to watch at the Cinema, Theatre, on TV or have you read a good book lately?

It was all blown down this year. It was no use for construction timber and my understanding is that it was also too contaminated from soil to be processed into wood pellets. I’m guessing a lot of wind blown wood falls into the no use for processing bracket.
Where is he Andy? Not being a rapacious bustard but I plan to use my WBS1&2 for years. Could do a wee cash conversion? Just a thought and no worries if not as I've another 5T to fell & collect Nov. Nonetheless, if'en it worked..

Btw, sorry for your pals Da, tough break..
Perth way I think. I'll ask what happened to it all :>

The trees cleared from last year's storm Arwen figured in the millions. I am sure that a percentage would be sold to Drax. Read an article on it, will see if I can find.

My understanding was that Drax was converted from burning coal powder to wood pellets because the pellets could be crushed and blown in in the same manner, albeit probably derating the power somewhat. We have limited means to produce pellets from sawdust in UK let alone from whole trees but the cost of pelleting abroad was wholly mitigated by the saving in bulk needed to be shipped i.e. the ship could carry its full weight in pellets because of the much higher bulk density than wood chip.

As with waste I firmly believe in local solution to it rather than shipping round the globe, also it is a publicly funded subsidy that is exported rather than benefiting home industry.

Drax recieves 893 million pounds a year in subsidies paid for 100% by your electric bills. That is their business model. They will burn anything at any cost to the planet in order to recieve this kickback.
