I didn't think this would be quite such a problem here in the UK, so what it must be like elsewhere in the world I can't begin to imagine!
Enough gas escaped to power 7500 homes for a year!

Or, alternatively, 30,000 homes while it was leaking? Depending on the time of the year, mind.

Or 700,000 homes if you include all the leaks in the UK.

From early in that report:
“A spokesperson for UK oil and gas companies rejected that, saying it was not profitable to capture all of it.”
Says it all, really? There is a cost to everyone else, but they are not prepared to spend anything to avoid the atmospheric pollution,
They simply flare off the gas to reduce their costs - and thus make more profit for themselves. Unacceptable in the present climate change. Unacceptable for wasting valuable commodities. Unacceptable that subsidies are effectively provided to the industry, even though the industry does nothing in return on this front.
