Building the Saudi Ski Resort

Any news worthy story. Good things to watch at the Cinema, Theatre, on TV or have you read a good book lately?

Building the Saudi Ski Resort

#1

Post by dan_b »

Well I had no idea this was being built.

In Saudi Arabia they're constructing a mountain top out door ski resort which will use refrigerated concrete ski runs, covered with artificial snow made with desalinated water. And a huge dam. And a huge sky scraper. And some weird "digital" stuff.

Sounds environmentally sustainable doesn't it.

I guess if they have a lot of people there wanting to ski then it saves them having to jet off to a ski resort elsewhere on the planet?
:pot-stir:

But i suspect it'll be used as a tourist attraction so people will be jetting in to use it. :whako:

I wonder if they'll power it with pv.
450W hydro-electric
5110W pv
1.3kw Wt2 - not yet producing
6kWh lead acid - maybe 1kwh useable
LiMnCo battery made from 2nd hand hybrid car modules 3.6kwh nominal 24v.
300lt hot water tank and two storage heaters
ASHP Grant Aerona 3 10.5kw and UFH

I've thought for a while it's only a matter of time before we start with artificially reducing ground temperatures here in Alpine ski resorts. The economy of parts of Austria, Switzerland, Italy, France etc relies massively on tourism and Winter generates far more tourists than summer. Over the last few years we are even making snow on glaciers ready for the ski season. I console myself with the knowledge that at least here in Tirol we are using mainly hydro power to generate the electricity to drive these machines.
Living the dream in Austria.

Not to mention the increased albedo?
