Any news worthy story. Good things to watch at the Cinema, Theatre, on TV or have you read a good book lately?

The Czech Republic chooses a Korean reactor design for its new nuclear plans, snubbing EDF's EPR

These would be "Version 2s" of the EPR design being built at HPC - lower output but apparently much simpler and cheaper to build.

As of this evening EDF has received approval to start the reactor and begin the process of ramping up to generate power and feed into the grid.

That’s the second EPR finally coming into service in Europe.

Looks like they're going to miss the 2013 target date then.

Two BEV's.
Two small A2A heatpumps.

Gonna be a fun conversation when 'Big Tony' and his boys turn up and ask for the vig!

PS - What did the FT say, I can't read it?

oh dear oh dear, no way of wrapping this one up pretty, although they do try to........

An automatic reactor scram is never good event, if a reactor has to be shut down its preferable for the operators to be aware and conducted their own reactor shut down then at least they can be said to be in control. Automatic shut down suggests the instrumentation had to do the task because the control room did not act quickly enough.

Another calamity along the route for this reactor type.

Can't polish the HPC turd, but I'll attempt to roll it in glitter:

HPC was started later so higher cost as nuclear tends to have a negative learning curve*, and HPC is two ~1.6GW reactors, whilst Flamanville is just one.

*I believe it's the only industry in history to have a negative learning curve, mainly because ever more stringent safety levels are required due to the scale of 'disaster' that the edge cases cause.
