I don't recall hearing about this before. Watched an interesting Youtube vid, thought it was going to be about glulam boards or similar, but I was wrong.

So, you take wood, soak it in a chemical solution, then crush it. You heat this to lock in the chemical transition, and end up with a board that's approx 1/5th the thickness. But it's extremely strong and hard. The suggestion being that it's lighter, stronger, and crucially cheaper, than steel.

I think the vid is a good level (for me), nice and simple, and considers pro's and con's about whether this can be commerciallized (it does already exist). My immediate thought was that if it can displace some steel and/or concrete, then you avoid the CO2(e) emissions and also sequester some CO2 from the environment (via the wood carbon cycle).

I hope it's viable, and not a :teapot: I'm going to assume that some folk on here will know a lot more about it.
