Ocean Alkalinity Enhancement

Any news worthy story. Good things to watch at the Cinema, Theatre, on TV or have you read a good book lately?

are talking up the attempt to get more CO2 taken up by the seas... it looks mad to me, just more industrial-scale mining and/or energy useage.

One system seems to be putting lime into the ocean - having extracted limestone and burnt it, capturing the CO2 for sub-ocean storage (if you can believe that) and another is electrolysing concentrated seawater/brine from reverse-osmosis plants. That is quite clever as you get saleable chlorine but you don't have to dispose of the caustic soda waste! However it would be using massive amounts of electricity.

Why can't anybody plan the economy around energy efficiency? Just putting chalk boulders/pebbles on beaches would have the same effect - but it would ruin resorts which currently have nice clear bathing water! Has anyone calculated the contribution made by the erosion of the white cliffs of Dover?
