Totally agree, Too easy to stick in the mind at 1 stop solutions. Even on an island as narrow as ours it would make sense to feed the coastal demand from the coastal WT's and TT's along with their storage and the lets call it farmlands from the solar, land based WT's etc. I wish we were in a position where we we are all micro generators of 1 type or another and our home meters clocked up the in and out of the powerflow with the necessary stipend on top to maintain and improve the grid. True local generation and fast response, we've all seen weather where the clouds are black in one area and 3 miles later blazing sunshine and rainbow. Chuck a few strategic steisdel hot rock storage facilities, a few bladder in the sea, some old school grid level chem battery storage down the central spine tracking close to the cities. That would largely kill the transmission losses? Might not see it in my lifetime but fingers crossed.Bugtownboy wrote: ↑Sat Feb 05, 2022 1:41 pm We can’t be dismissive - cautious maybe - our future power supply has to be (unless fusion delivers) based around RE.
To make this realistic, there has to be storage. Surely a blended approach to providing this has to be part of the solution. The more groups working on a potential solution, the better - one size ain’t going to fit.
BUT, until that day I'll do my wee bit with WS rice cooking for Sat night kedgeree.
