Would You design an insulator that lays horizontal between two phases. ???
Its just waiting to collect air bourne carbon that will settle across the top section.
The original vertical ones that have worked for very many years only go between phase and earth.
So they only have 231 kV across the vertical insulator.
This new design has 400 kV across the horizontal insulator waiting to fill up with carbon.
The vertical ones used to fail quite regular in Saudi Arabia with high air bourne carbon pollution from oil refineries.
I would suggest that you wear a hard hat if you go walking near these new ones.
Hard hat required if walking near new T shape pylons.

Re: Hard hat required if walking near new T shape pylons.
Are these new T pylons concrete or steel?
It's a bit weird visually as the T pylon itself is quite a different shape from the diamond "earrings" and there's a bit of a visual jarring effect there for me in the design. Not as unobtrusive as I thought.

Call me "fick" but I see those big old cranes which are on a big old hardpack & maybe tarmac pad on not inconsiderable footprint, regular pylons are on small pads in fields, is this a test rig for long term monitoring or something? ..how will we deal with plonking these in churned up ploughed fields & the like?

Thanks, that temp road clearly not cheap.Galahad wrote: ↑Thu Mar 17, 2022 10:33 am Video and animation here shows the installation process - https://hinkleyconnection.co.uk/whats-a ... uild-them/
Hopefully they will eventually utilise big old roll out matting & void the need for such labours as are required for tracks currently, those pylon pads are not small though which will reduce farmers crop planting & up the carbon footprint.
(would like some detail on those pads square footage & costs, they must be considerable & are there for the life of the pylon it seems, ...mm, black macadam heat islands)
