Next Storm?

Any news worthy story. Good things to watch at the Cinema, Theatre, on TV or have you read a good book lately?

So after a rummage about in the garage on Saturday (with head torch in use) got a temporary fuel tank set up and started it up, noisy as it's air-cooled but warms up the garage nicely
Still need to get proper fuel tank made and some mains wiring to alter and it will be fully automatic in starting and stopping.

Huge leap forward, excellent. Beats paying day rate to hire one in.
It sure does especially since I got it for free! Mind you exhaust, batteries, cable, 100A switched fuse, fuel tank and fittings fairly added up, but worth it as an insurance against further power cuts.

Great work. That looks like a decent beast! What is is? The exhaust looks to be in very good condition but I assume you have a CO detector in there too?

People I know with generators worry about fuel stability. How do you handle that?

You can get additives that claim to extend the life of fuel, it'll still go bad at some point though. Not a problem if the lights go out for several days every few months, but you can go years without an outage. Bottle gas is a good choice for backup because it lasts forever...

It's a 1970's Lister LR3, 3 cylinder 18HP 10.5kW, the exhaust is brand new and stainless steel (I never want to replace it), no CO2 detector yet (but think I have one somewhere).
Not had to worry about fuel stability yet as though I've had it over 25years I haven't had it running during that time, something to consider though.

You need a CO detector not a CO2 detector

Really nice looking generator, Moxie.

Surely if it’s a system you’re dependent on in the event of failure, testing/running regularly (weekly/monthly) is essential ?

At least then, the fuel would be regularly replenished.

Agree with others, a CO monitor in the room and potentially above/adjacent to it is essential.
