That's not right though. They do commit to billions and swagger about, but must know that the costs down the line will likely beggar the country (but admittedly they won't have to answer for them.) How much has the taxpayer guaranteed HPC? How much more will be put onto the electricity standing charge to pay for these new nukes? Like I said before, it's (or I hope it comes to be recognised as) another poll-tax: no matter how poor you are you will still pay, and if you are in debt and on a pre-payment meter you will pay even more!Moxi wrote: ↑Thu Apr 07, 2022 5:15 pm Mart,
I don't think its you not seeing the BIG picture its the politicians being short term in their pitch - they won't do important decision making that costs the country billions to accomplish if they don't think they will be around to reap the praise and rewards and sadly, as we see with Hinkley C, nukes don't get built fast enough to serve the politicians beauty pageant style of 5 year politics.

Boris has a history of committing public money to white elephants which experts say are pointless, but he wants to leave his legacy: Thames cable-car crossing, Boris buses (too big and heavy to be legally used outside London, let alone abroad - and bankrupted the builder) the Millenium garden bridge, plus nearly a million quid on engineering studies to state the bleedin' obvious: a tunnel to Ireland is a daft idea!
They have expert reports on CO2 emissions, they can see what wind is delivering in Wales and Scotland, they have been told that there is a critical need for more storage but they keep on in the same old way, presumably enriching their chums while they are in control.

p.s. and Crofter Mannie might well be right, but that's just another bit of deception which costs us all dear - those of us who can't choose whether we pay tax or not anyway.
