That's funny, only a week ago the government didn't have a clue how much it was going to cost.
While there is plenty of mention about cost savings here and there I couldn't find anywhere it stated what the cost is going to be let alone what it will cost to decommission.

£40 billion according to the latest gossip, which is about £5billion more than the original official forecast.

If you want an isite into the costs of decommissioning take a look at https://publications.parliament.uk/pa/c ... #heading-3

where they discuss the AGR decommissioning costs etc. I was very surprised to see that EDF get to defuel the station then hand them back to the UK to pay for the demolishing and making safe ? So did we just get the French in to rip us off and make a massive profit at the tax payer expense then ?

An earlier assessment of arrangements to cover decommissioning costs - I do not feel any more confident than I did previously :(

Hi Moxi, my understanding for HPC (and presumably SZC if we fall for this scam again), is that the CfD contract includes decommissioning. The operators/investors (China and France?) are suppossed to invest money that will grow to be enough to cover the costs when the site is decommissioned. I think it's like a giant growth savings fund.

So they don't have to put enough in to cover the costs, they have to put enough in, that it will grow, with returns to cover the cost. Anyone starting to get doubts yet? And I seem to recall that if the fund isn't large enough and/or costs rise too high, then the UK Gov is expected to step in and cover the shortfall. So that's OK then.

Hi Mart,

Yeah that’s the gist of it and is the same ponzi scheme as the AGR fleet decommissioning where surprise surprise the uk government is going to have to contribute due to escalating costs. Guess where they will be getting their cash for that ! Standing charge anybody?
