'Right now, VAT on electricity from a public charger is levied at a rate four-times that which applies to domestic electricity, which makes it far more expensive to charge on-the-go than it should be," he said.'

Shame that "muskey" doesn't wang in a few solar farms / wind turbines & a few site test time shift batteries to slow the creeping costs all over, as part of a showcase of green transport energy

How many to balance the annual tesla fleet growth I wonder?

It makes me feel very fortunate to have home solar PV which does an awful lot of the heavy lifting to charge the EV for 9 months of the year.I try to stay away from public charging as much as possible. I spoke to my EV charge point fella yesterday and he tells me that they have a huge waitlist for PV installs and that due to shortages in parts they are fitting the PV then coming back 3 months later to do the battery portion of the job!

For sure the EV charging infrastructure is not keep up with the vol hitting the roads.

Most people will manage on home charging for all their BEV needs 360days of the year. Rapid charging is for rare long trips. It is easy to get het up about how much Ionity (or whoever) charge for a few kWh on that family trip down to St Ives in August. However the ice cream will be more expensive than at home too.

Even with my small solar array and teeny battery, I struggle to use all the power on sunny days with just a PHEV to charge.

I will remember the ice cream van analogy for long trips
It's the coffee shops I am wary of, they cost more than a fast charge any given journey.
