on R4 yesterday evening (Thurs 7/7) near the end of the 6.30pm programme
Comedian explains that he grew up in Nottingham, but that his [Irish] grandad came into UK as a child when his parents immigrated. Hence he is no fan of Irish jokes, but he likes this one [better told than read, but here goes:]
Irishman goes to a building site for a job, and gets a competence test. Foreman says "I'll make it easy for you Paddy. What is the difference between a girder and a joist?"
reply "That's easy. Girder wrote "Faust" and Joist wrote "Ulysses!"
Excellent.
