Well it was rolling (drip drip) bad news for ongoing covid crisis which applied to all but politicians, ..so the bad news on rolling blackouts rolls closer.
Logical really.

"oh no we won't". ...."oh yes we will"

offtopic, id love to see "the house" dubbed by the likes of charlie brooker using a swazzle.

I don't think a government could survive rolling blackouts these days, so I can't see it happening.

I know they have scheduled outages in California, where power is switched off for a few hours, one neighbourhood at a time and the rich neighbourhoods seem to be exempt. But I just can't see that sort of thing being tolerated here.

We live in a different society! People have more opportunities to complain and are much more used to a comfortable existence.

Time will tell!

"A full-scale campaign could involve spending some of the £930m advertising spending budget that Truss has earmarked to use in the run-up to the next general election"

Spend it on WT's ...simple. campaign relevent at time of actual election appointment of someone we never voted for in the first instance (bar tory members) more winter energy when needed most, be seen to do.

I

if the power is down it wont be via email Stinsy, it will be down the road after the event.
a gallic shrug of "tough" / merde dure

As well as "you could be in ukraine with NO electricity 24/7 + rockets + bullets + rapists, ...grow a pair.

..or any ballhooks spouted when johnson is near a mic & a camera, ...backbone, ww2, 1970's ...all pulling together
call me cynical, ...when the power is back on 😂

comfort comes from continuity of services, media would be instructed (wherever possible) to big up other stories to get past the 14 day memory window it relies on.

Households could be asked to turn their thermostats down and use their dishwashers and washing machines during the night and at times when energy demand is lower, under plans being discussed between the business department, energy companies and the network operator National Grid.

..how should folk with ashp tumbledriers deal with such vague advise? ..daytime temps may mean drawing heat from air (timed right) compared to the heat element at night, ..tbf the govt should have been hammering home night use of dishwashers for the last decade & made it normal practise, but after grenfell a lot of folk are twitchy about things being on when asleep & prone.

ah well.

I agree with Stinsy,

the GOVT will do their utmost to keep the lights on for domestic users at least most of the time, the political consequences of un expected/planned blackouts would be catastrophic, as if it isn't already. If we sit in darkened homes for too long shivering in the depths of winter with all that entails, like excess deaths,

https://www.theguardian.com/business/20 ... inds-study

it would very likely particiapate a vote of no confidence in the GOVT which to be blunt would wipe the Tories out, if they had fifty seats they would be lucky.

The problem they face is that after 12 years of underinvestment in everything we are not prepared in the least. So we would be faced with paying sky high prices in competition with all the Europeans and others. Then the question is how do we pay for it? QE or a windfall tax or some combination of both would be the least painless way,

https://www.bankofengland.co.uk/monetar ... ive-easing

and has been shown to work without causing inflation to any alarming degree, before you say Venezualla (sp) I say FIAT currency and a largely un-corrupt HMRC.

Knowing our sorry shower of halfwits though they may well dream up some rubbish about an upfront payment from the GOVT to be paid back via even higher energy bills starting some time in early 2025, conveniently just after the next GE, that gives their rabid chums in the press 2 years to hack Starmer and his mates to mincemeat and for us all to forget what a shower of sh*t we are living through.

PS don't tell anyone but I am going to get a looooong extension lead and plug it into Nowty's garage while he is not looking :D :D

PPS mind you I am sitting here burning up with COVID and the thought of feeling cold is quite appealing

"Government analysis has predicted Britain could experience power cuts for four days in January if there were gas shortages and the weather was particularly severe."

Bring it on, Nowty Towers can survive a power cut over a week even in Jan if I change my lifestyle a little. And if I'm rationed to only 6 hrs a day, then that's no different to being on my Octopus Intelligent tariff.

But if those hours are not in the cheapslot.

Hope to fudge you don't get covid brain desp, its not pretty, wifes struggling with meds adjustments & stuff for patients that have always been easy as pish, ditto the accountant over the road, his recall is up the swanny, ....my world since the late 80's basically.

off topic, @spread-tee screwfix postal brochure 3rd - 30th oct, page 17 ...go look matey, id start a thread asking about this model of charger, but am about to go out.

£386.10 solar compatible. ..looks like non pen fault version!? ..would be good to get some input, as only other real prospect for solar ev charger is the very ugly & expensive zappi at close to £1000.

affordable potential just not the neatest of fixes (cables glands underneath if i recall correctly)
standby sub 8 watts ..meh.
