and of course we can rely on those car companies to self regulate, after all they wouldn't knowingly miss report or falsify software protection mechanisms would they.
Sorry but I feel this discredits the EU and shows that the interests of the few with money and influence take precedence.

Yeah this is a major win for the fossil lobby.
Such a shame. Real weakness of leadership.
My main thought though is that it actually won't matter on the grand scheme of things. The adoption curves for BEV uptake in so many EU countries are all pointing in only one direction because they're just better vehicles - and if the legacy-ICE companies wish to drag their heels instead of feeding the new demand, they will die. Tesla, Kia/Hyundai and the Chinese brands will fill the gap.
