Hydrogen "alternatives" eh?
The additional expense & hassle all the way along the chain, has it only just been realised or is this a collapsing party in retreat that has shut the drawer on pushing this regardless as it continues to lose support & power in general?
I thought that despite the obvious publicised energy heavy process of starting out with green electricity & the costly conversion process (needlessly) the bullheaded drive by the tories to industrialise "at any cost" was happening regardless, ... so what is most likely to have finally flicked the "hydrogen everything" dial downwards?
NB starmer no better on this either but have lost the link, his public / private partnership "energy producer" sounds like he aims for a plant in scotland of unknown type, but suspiciously like a hydrogen plant to utilise all those scottish windfarms that they still allow up there..
Is the production of hydrogen & adaptation to hydrogen vehicles just a means to ensure govt duty rolls in at the pumps because unlike solar it cannpt be produced & diverted to your bev car at home?

Re: UK poised to drop plans to replace home gas boilers with hydrogen alternatives
Great news, will help to clarify the 'real' options going forward.
A similar policy statement for road transport would be useful, but tbh, it's largely irrelevant, as HFCV's (hydrogen fuel cell vehicles) won't be able to compete with BEV's anyway.

I honestly wish I shared your positivity on this matter Mart, but all evidence is to the contrary.
2c temp rise was a soft play instead of " get used to it"
Just like the news piece get used to a likelihood of 30% "extra hot days" ...not an effing clue as to digging us out enough to stabilise let alone backpedal to a previous state.
Depressing.
It needs to be forcibly asked, if hydrogen is being dropped (at a to date cost of)? what is the back up plan B & when is it to be in full swing?

Re: UK poised to drop plans to replace home gas boilers with hydrogen alternatives
Hiya Gus, the plan A (not sure I'd even call H2 boilers plan Z) is heat pumps. As the article states, that's 1/6th the green leccy generation needed v's H2 boilers. Here's that old(ish) diagram just to explain:Mr Gus wrote: ↑Fri Jul 14, 2023 2:53 pmI honestly wish I shared your positivity on this matter Mart, but all evidence is to the contrary.

Re: UK poised to drop plans to replace home gas boilers with hydrogen alternatives
Yeah, I remember that diagram from not long ago, precisely what I mean about a waste of already green grid (WT produced energy) & stuffing up the process, part of why my mind boggles at how the folk pushing it function!
