"The ship had around
3,000 cars on board, according to Dutch broadcaster NOS, and the fire is suspected to have started in one of the
25 electric cars on board, the news service added, citing a spokesperson for the coast guard.
What's up with this?
It is perplexing how it seems to happen on transporters in the past 18 months, & truth be told, if it go's like last time & we have another sinking will we ever really know the definitive cause?
How many has tesla "ferried" around the world via sea to date, "Flame free" !?
"The ship, the Fremantle Highway, is a vehicle carrier that was transporting nearly 3,000 cars, 25 of them electric, from the German port of Bremen to Port Said in Egypt" ..will they all be new? or will a whole load of secondhand vehicles have booked space, Egypt with all it's problems the last 12 years is not brimming with cash I'd guess, which might also put another spin on things.

Hhmmmm,
https://electrek.co/2023/07/26/surprise ... ship-fire/
Surprise! Media is misreporting the source of a Dutch cargo ship fire
Currently, the fire is still burning and the cause of the fire is unknown, according to the Dutch Coast Guard, which is carrying out the firefighting operation. But media reports, seeming to all crib from the same misquote, would have you think otherwise.
The cargo ship was carrying 2,832 gas-powered cars, complete with a large amount of volatile energy stored in their collective gas tanks and the tank of the ship itself, and 25 electric ones, from Germany to Egypt. Naturally, the media seems to have taken one statement from the Dutch Coast Guard and misinterpreted it, jumping to exactly the premature conclusion that you probably did when you saw this headline pop up.
An early article about the cargo ship fire quoted Lea Versteeg, a spokesperson for the Dutch Coast Guard, as having made this statement over the phone:
It’s carrying cars, 2,857, of which 25 are electrical cars, which made the fire even more difficult. It’s not easy to keep that kind of fire under control and even in such a vessel it’s not easy.

As I say, if it was a big old EV problem likely we'd have plenty here waiting for replacement tesla's due to "regular" fires on ferry transporters, ..which we haven't.
BEV's make headlines, tesla, fires, thus BEV's fires, SHI-journalisT reportage.
Essentially this is the second ferry in around 16-18months both had a mix of vehicles, compared to none from EXLCUSIVELY tesla (for example) ..i'd like to know with what frequency ICE car ferry transporters are going up though, somethings afoot...
Does it boil down to the ship team thinking, long journey, rev the ollocks out of a temepremental ICE supercar for a bit of fun, hot pipes, fuel slosh (boat motion) & the crazy world of Arthur brown brings the encore?
Check the crews phones for media.

Although a problem with Lithium Cobalt Manganese batteries (yes mine has that chemistry) Lithium Iron Phosphate batteries are now fast becoming the norm.
While ‘suspecting’ the fire was caused by an EV, it is far more likely to have originated with an ICE fire which was then exacerbated by the EV. As above, the usual press hysteria kicking in immediately, IMO.

"matches
can create flame" schlock hyperbole
Apparently the worst offender for fires is hybrid variety (lets see the reporters back-pedal there)
Found this which is an update on the 2022 fire & more in general... a recommended read to all

The whole site is dedicated to EV fire POTENTIAL from someone who sounds as disgruntled as media ballhooks as we frequently do, the site is useful, so have a graze beyond the initial article.-

Lots of things that might start a fire on board a ship, not just the cargo. The original quote only talks about the difficulties of putting a fire out when this type of cargo catches fire, not the cause of it.
