5 million vapes thrown away every week

Oh my word this is a real shocker. "Disposable" vapes being binned to the tune of 5 million per week in the UK. Enough for 5000 EVs.
And I think they're high cobalt chemistry batteries too.
Awful.

Hopefully a lot of them are intercepted at municipal waste recycling facilities (MWRF's) but that wont account for the ones that are casually slung on the ground (unless someone else does the right thing and picks them up and bins (recycles) them. I was a guillivers world recently and someone has slung their vape on to the ground on the rapids ride where its got minimum chance of being recovered.
I think someone recently posted on here about someone picking up dropped vapes and making a battery pack for their E scooter, lets hope more people get the habit of picking up free batteries from idiots who dont appreciate the environment or the "money" they are throwing away.
Lastly why don't governments legislate to ban "disposable" vapes on health and environment grounds?
